This build focuses on raising the quality of Trail-Mix, keeping Notes and other Trail-Mix items in sync between the browser tab and sidebar.

Notes are now checked if they’ve been edited or deleted elsewhere when clicking in the note.  Notes in the sidebar are now automatically updated when editing them.  Notes currently must be saved before Copy to Clipboard or Emailing them.  These issues will be fixed in future builds.

We also added the ability to view .bmp and .ico pictures within the browser.

Beta Build 1009 fixed some regressions that I felt needed to be fixed asap, as a few bugs slipped through, but we’ve fixed the problems as soon as we found them.  The build is on trail-mix.com now, and will be on addons.mozilla.org after regression tests pass.

Now, while editing Notes in the “desktop view” or sidebar, Trail-Mix always checks whether you have unsaved changes.  If so, you will be asked whether to save before continuing.  Trail-Mix also makes sure you are editing the latest version of the note whenever you start editing.

In addition, New Note Page menu item now adds notes in a new tab.

We fixed a drag & drop issue where text like “A & B” was being captured as “A & B”, such as when you drag snippets of text to an activity.

For Developers/Admins: Did you know you can edit simple Javascript, XML, and Windows scripts in Trail-Mix? When you create a New Note, just add .js .xml or .bat to the file name.  For some files, you can even run them.  Try creating a New Note Page titled print.js, and type print(2+2); in the window, then click Run.  The file is automatically saved before running, and you see the output directly.  The script runs outside of the context of the page, so variables like window and document are not defined by default.  I use this all the time to debug and test changes in Trail-Mix.  (BTW: There’s a small bug in the console where it sometimes has a second scrollbar (Mac) or scrolls off the page.  If you get this, just refresh the page.)

Note Pages now accept any of the following text extensions: .txt,.js,.jsm,.sql,.css,.xml,.xul,.rdf,.manifest,.vbs,.bas,.bat (these are settable in about:config).

And of course, you can add the scripts to an activity to track it, or even use the “View In Sidebar” Actions Menu to add notes!

I’ve been asked to be an alpha tester for a new file organizing and sharing software program created by Brennan Gaunce called Trail-Mix. It has changed my life on-line! For example: my blog posts are now so much easier to create. David, one of our original Beta testers, asked me if he could save all of his Firefox tabs to Activities.  I thought that was a great idea, because I often open lots of tabs while I’ve reading about something new.

But often, I get too many, or I get to the point I need to do something else and don’t have time to deal with them.  Or I get too much clutter with 10 tabs open, so I gotta do something with them.

Wow!  Now you can put them into a Trail-Mix Activity!

And - David also asked for another very useful feature: Show At Startup. When an Activity is marked as Show At Startup, the sidebar automatically displays that Activity when you start Firefox in the morning.

So now, you’ll never forget to read all those tabs you’ve collected!

Today we posted Trail-Mix Beta build 825, with better organization for Activities using a folder-like nesting.  Now you can drag & drop to organize your online Activities.

We’ve also improved Trail-Mix for the Mac.  You can use Trail-Mix Files to quickly find desktop files or folders, add them to Activities, or even drag them into Online Folders to share with others on your company document server.  A screenshot of the Files view is below.

Everyone, today we posted Trail-Mix 1.3.1Beta build 682 to the web site.

Some highlights on new features:

• Filtering for activities, notes, pictures, etc. in the sidebar is a lot faster now, getting closer in speed to the “awesome” Firefox address bar.
• When searching for an activity in the sidebar, hitting enter brings up the top match or an exact match (if its not the first).
• When searching doesn’t match anything, the activity can be created easily by simply hitting “Enter”.
• Activities now show their contents (up to 10 items) from the Activities list in the sidebar.  Hover over the Acorns in the list.
• There is now a “Favorite” icon in the Desktop Files Explorer, so you can easily add a folder as a favorite on the left.
• Several Online Files bugs were fixed, including some drag & drop to and from the Files desktop and Webdav Server.
• In Online Folders, folders or even files listed deep in the folder hierarchy can be marked as favorites, so then they appear at the top level in the sidebar
• Online Files now has an upload progress bar if you upload files or folders.
• You can now save notes with the “Save To…” right mouse context menu.
• Notes are now displayed as a full page when clicked - so you can edit notes in the sidebar (hover over the note icon) or in the “desktop” view.
